    Ron Campbell and Charles Millsap recently authored chapters in the Kansas Bar Association's handbook, Kansas Construction Law, Second Edition. Mr. Campbell's chapter is entitled "Prompt Payment Acts" and discusses federal court and state laws that provide for timely payment to those persons involved in construction work, as well as the 2005 Kansas Fairness in Private Construction Act.  Mr. Millsap's chapter is entitled "Public Bonds."  This chapter reviews federal and state legislation that protects those who provide labor or material for the construction of public projects and who are deprived of the payment protection normally afforded by state mechanics' lien laws.

  • Orientation to Kansas Practice for New Lawyers Seminar

    On October 20, 2006, several Fleeson attorneys were presenters at this seminar sponsored by the Wichita Bar Association.  Bill Townsley spoke on civil practice, Lyndon Vix discussed appellate practice and Kent Meyerhoff presented on corporate law.  The New Lawyers seminar is presented annually and is required for newly admitted attorneys.
     

  • News Boycotts

    On October 20, 2006, Bill Tretbar and Lyndon Vix , accompanied by L. Kelly of the Wichita Eagle, presented this topic at the Kansas Bar Association's Media Law Seminar.  The panel discussed retaliatory actions by government entities in response to unfavorable news coverage.
     

  • "Avoiding Ethical Obstacles" and "Results-Oriented Hearing Strategies"

    On September 22, 2006, at the Wichita Bar Association's seminar on bankruptcy law, Tom Lasater was a member of a panel discussing "BAPCPA After One Year".  Tom and Lyndon Vix also presented a tribute to former Fleeson attorney Mary May who passed away earlier this year while serving as U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee for Region 20.
