Brooks Kancel's practice involves a variety of complex litigation cases, including personal injury defense, employment law, workers compensation defense, and property tax appeals.  She has actively participated in all phases of civil litigation, and in 2010 she participated in five different jury trials, including two in federal court.  She was named the Kansas Bar Association Young Lawyer of the Year in 2010 and was honored as a Rising Star in the Super Lawyers magazine for the past two years.  Brooks holds dual degrees in accounting and finance from Kansas State University and graduated from Washburn University School of Law, with honors, in 2005. 
 
Brooks is actively involved in both the Wichita and Kansas Bar Associations.  Brooks was recently elected to the WBA Board of Governors and is a member of the WBA Civil Practice Committee.  She has also served many times as a volunteer speaker for Law Day and worked on the stage crew in the past two WBA Bar Shows.  She has been on the Wichita Bar Association Young Lawyers board since 2008 and last served as the Young Lawyers President.  Brooks has also been a member of the Wichita Women Attorneys Association for several years and has previously served numerous terms on its board.  Brooks has also served on the Kansas Bar Association Young Lawyers board as Newsletter Co-Editor for the past two years and is currently President-Elect. 
 
In addition to her activities with the bar, Brooks is very involved in the Wichita community.  She has served on an allocation panel for the United Way for several years and as a judge for the Spirit of Caring Award.  Brooks also volunteers her time as a Big Sister with Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters.  In her spare time, Brooks enjoys biking, participating in triathlons, and taking on home improvement projects.
