Susan Selvidge was born in St. Louis,
Missouri on February 18, 1941. She attended Washington
University in St. Louis and graduated in 1963. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Betta
sorority while there. She received her Juris Doctor degree
from Northwestern University in 1980. Ms. Selvidge joined Fleeson, Gooing,
Coulson & Kitch, L.L.C. in 1981. She has been a member of the firm
since 1986.
Ms. Selvidge’s practice emphasizes
employment law, especially the defense of employers in
discrimination and wrongful termination claims. She regularly
defends both administrative claims and civil lawsuits in this area.
She has frequently been successful in obtaining summary judgment for
employers in both state and federal employment discrimination
lawsuits.
Ms. Selvidge also advises employers in the preparation and
administration of employment policies, particularly administration
of Family and Medical Leave Act policies. She is also engaged in
general business litigation, including police liability defense,
construction arbitration, and contract claims.
Ms. Selvidge is a member of the Wichita Bar Association, and a
former member of the WBA’s Board of Governors. She has also served
many years on the WBA Alternative Resolution Dispute and Civil
Practice Committees. She is also a member of the Kansas Bar
Association and a former member of the Illinois Bar Association,
where she practiced before joining the firm.
Ms. Selvidge is active in the community, and has served several
terms on the Board of Directors of Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita
and the Wichita Chapter of the American Red Cross. She has also
served on the board of the East Side YMCA, and is a past president
of Literacy Volunteers of America in Wichita. Ms. Selvidge has also
provided employment law services to many other charitable
organizations, including the Kansas Foodbank Warehouse and Wichita
Children’s Home.
On numerous occasions, Ms. Selvidge has been a guest lecturer on
employment discrimination and employment law for civic, professional
and educational organizations, particularly regarding the Family and
Medical Leave Act and employment discrimination law. She has also
given seminars and management training presentations for employers
on such subjects as prevention of discrimination lawsuits and sexual
harassment.
