Fleeson Gooing attorney Brooks Severson has been selected as Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. It is anticipated that she will be sworn into her new position sometime in August.
Brooks is a native of Wyandotte County, Kansas. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and her Juris Doctor from Washburn University in 2005, after which she joined Fleeson Gooing as an associate attorney. She is one of the firm’s primary litigators and trial attorneys, handling cases in the areas of insurance defense, personal injury, employment law, government liability, and education law.
Brooks has been active in the bar and the community. She currently serves as president of the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel and has been a member of the boards of Get Your Rear in Gear and Together Wichita, while also serving as a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor. She has received the KADC’s Distinguished Service Award and has been recognized as one of Wichita’s Women who Lead in Legal Services by the Wichita Business Journal.
Within Fleeson Gooing, Brooks is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and previously chaired the Litigation Practice Group, while serving as a mentor to younger attorneys and law clerks and leading the Hiring Committee.
Brooks will be greatly missed, and while we are saddened to see her go, we wish her the best as she moves to the bench. Our loss is the legal community’s gain.
