Several Fleeson Gooing attorneys recently served as speakers to various groups on a variety of legal topics.

In December, Tom Lasater participated in a panel discussion on the topic of Trial Advocacy in Bankruptcy for the Wichita Bar Association’s “Bankruptcy Law Update” seminar. Tom specifically discussed evidentiary issues related to the testimony of debtors.

Lyndon Vix recently presented at two WBA seminars. For “Appellate Procedures and Perspectives from Bench to Bar.” held on April 8, 2011, he discussed unique procedural aspects of appeals to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He also participated in a panel discussion regarding the impact of the Kansas Supreme Court’s decision in Martinez v. Melburn Enterprises for a seminar on “The Changing Medical/Legal Landscape” held on April 29, 2011.

Bill Townsley participated in an all-day WBA seminar presented by the Wesley E. Brown American Inn of Court on April 28, 2011. The title of the seminar was “Preparing Your Case for Trial with an Eye Toward Settlement,” and Bill presented on the topic of Preparing for Mediation.

Dave Seely and Jason Bock presented at the Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners Association Annual Meeting, held on April 30, 2011, in Hugoton, Kansas. Dave discussed the amicus brief which he and Greg Stucky, who was also in attendance, filed before the Kansas Supreme Court on behalf of the Association and the Eastern Kansas Royalty Owners Association in Northern Natural Gas Company v. ONEOK Field Services Company, et al. Jason spoke on estate planning and updated the Association on recent developments with regard to the federal estate and gift taxes. Approximately 150 members were in attendance from across the state of Kansas, as well as many who traveled in from surrounding states.
