In recent years, the practice of adopting children from foreign countries has grown considerably. Adoptions from China, South Korea, Guatemala and India are particularly prevalent. Formalizing these adoptions in the state of the parents’ residence is necessary in order for the child to receive a birth certificate from that state showing the legal status of the adoptive parents. Different formalization procedures are required depending upon the country involved. We have unique experience with these procedures and have worked with a number of notional adaption agencies including Dillon International, Holt International, Nightlight Christian Services, Faith International and Children’s Home Society and Family Services, in assisting parents with formalization.
