Fleeson Gooing attorney Sylvia Penner has been appointed to the Kansas Criminal Justice Reform Commission by Governor Laura Kelly.
The Commission was created by the Kansas Legislature in 2019 and is charged with conducting a comprehensive review of the State’s criminal justice system, including sentencing guidelines and practices, diversion options, community supervision of felons, speciality courts, specialized correctional facilities and inmate health care and rehabilitation programs. A primary goal is to conduct an assessment of sentencing proportionality.
Sylvia spent four years as a prosecutor in the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office before joining Fleeson Gooing in 2008. Her practice with the firm is varied and includes criminal defense and white collar civil and criminal defense in both the state and federal courts.
